South
Andrews
Business
Association-
better known as SABA – was formed in 2001 as a positive force
shaping the changes occurring along South Andrews Avenue. Our
main goal is to evolve S. Andrews Avenue into a pedestrian
friendly destination spot. We are well on our way. As you can
see,
Broward General Hospital
is undergoing a huge expansion. The old Bank Atlantic and
Dettman building are going to be replaced with an eight story
medical office tower with 30,000 sq. ft. of retail space on the
bottom floor, which will include restaurant/ retail space.
Sterling Bank is building a branch office on the corner of Davie
Blvd. and Andrews and across the street Sharpe Development Group
completed its face lift to the old CAV buildings on the SE
corner of Davie and Andrews |

Partnering with the City of Fort
Lauderdale, Broward General Medical Center, SABA has completed a
master plan
for the area between State road 84 on the south, Tarpon river to
the north. In short, we are planning to create a mixed use
residential, commercial and retail development on this street.
We are looking at the best ways to help service and promote the
hospital which is one of the largest employers in Broward
County, as well as the other neighborhood businesses. This
includes: bringing in a hotel adjacent to the hospital, as well
as more work force housing, wider sidewalks, street lamps,
plazas, and eventually tying in to the proposed mass
transportation and usable greenspace along the FEC railroad
tracks and right of way. |

SABA Unveils Art Banner Project
The South
Andrews Business Association is eager to display
their “Fantasy Fish” Public Art Banner Project. We
had a variety of schools and age groups throughout
Broward County participate in this very exciting
project. They include: Our Lady Queen of Martyrs,
Sagemont Upper School, West Lake Prepatory, Summit –
Questa Montessori, and FAU Graphic Design Class.
Additionally we had three elderly organizations
participate, and some businesses including Expresso
Coffee and The Madfis Group.

SABA has 75 banners,
36’ x 60’, all original pieces of art line the South
Andrews corridor from north of David Boulevard and
extend south of State Road 84. The banners will be
displayed through the end of May.
Thanks to our
sponsors: Broward General Medical Center, South
Andrews Business Association, Walker Canvas, Miller
Paint and Trans State Commercial Realty.
The South Andrews
Business Association is creating ways to bring our
community together while creating partnerships and
impacting our Andrews Avenue neighborhood. The
“Fantasy Fish” theme came from our partnership with
Broward General Medical Center as the Children’s
Hospital has an aquatic theme.

In order to promote our street,
raise funds and have people view our street as a destination, we
have an annual classic car show and street fair along 5 blocks
of Andrews. This show takes place the 1st week in December and
has been a huge success, with close to 300 classic cars, 70 flea
market vendors and vintage boats, food , drink and thousands of
people. This year the has evolved into “ Holiday on the
Avenue”, and will include Holiday Land, An Artist Village,
Classic Car show, Worlds Largest Block Party , an Actual mosaic
happening on the United Way Building and south side School and
hardy Park will have a family sports day venue.
Currently SABA has 70 members. We welcome involvement. SABA
membership is starting at $50.00 annual dues. See
application
page for more information. During the non hurricane season
months we hang colorful banners on the light poles to add some
jazz to our street.
